Calling Washington, D.C. elementary schools! 📍

What if your school building itself was the curriculum?

This year we are partnering with Instituto Mundo Verde on the Green Data Collective, a cohort open exclusively to schools located in Washington, D.C. Students in grades 3-5 collect, analyze, and act on real data from their own campus: water, energy, waste, and air quality.

In Education for Sustainability we call this reading the feedback. The systems around us are always telling us something. When children learn to notice it, make meaning of it, connect to it and respond, they discover that they can create change where they are.

Who can participate: elementary schools located in Washington, D.C., public or charter, with a team of about four teachers in grades 3-5.

Here's what partner schools receive:

• Eight weeks of professional learning this fall, which I'm co-leading with the IMV team. One live hour on Tuesday evenings and one self-paced hour each week.

• Ready-built learning sequences on waste, water, or energy, or support weaving campus data into a unit teachers already teach

• A $5,000 sub-award per school to offset educator time

• Coaching and a peer community through the spring, when students put it all into action

We have a few spots left and we'd love to fill them with D.C. schools that are ready.

If you lead, teach at, or simply love an elementary school in the District, please nominate it. Educators can nominate their own school, and families, alumni, and community members can nominate a school they believe in.
