Education for Sustainability in the Nakivale Refugee Camp in Uganda

This fall, our Program Specialist, Rosemarie Desmarais, will be offering an Education for Sustainability (EfS) workshop at the Nakivale Refugee Camp in Uganda!

This project is conducted in partnership with the Nakujali Foundation, an organization dedicated to creating educational opportunities that restore hope and foster confidence, health, and leadership among community members, especially children and women.

The Nakujali Foundation was funded by Musa Jeme Ben, a passionate community leader residing in the Nakivale Refugee Camp. Rosemarie met Musa through her involvement in international cooperation efforts. They were inspired by each others’ work and quickly formed a team.

Their collaboration has resulted in the development of a workshop on EfS and on the Oxford International Sustainability Course. The course is designed to cultivate sustainable living practices and strengthen young people’s connection to their local communities and the natural world and was co-developed with The Cloud Institute.

The workshop will be offered to educators and leaders working with the Nakujali Foundation, and delivered by Rosemarie in the fall 2025.

To support the costs of her travels, Rosemarie is currently raising money through GoFundMe.

Your donation will help cover:

  • Round-trip airfare;

  • Local accommodation and transport;

  • Community facilitator stipends;

  • Educational materials;

  • Workshop logistics costs and supplies.

Every contribution makes a BIG difference.

Thank you for being part of this meaningful journey!
